Google 在近期發現了一個小故障，導致對所有的搜尋結果產生了負面的影響，原本在昨日（8/11）大家以為是 Google 悄悄地推出了新的搜尋演算法，但是如今 Google 的 John Mueller 證實了他是一個故障所導致的：

我們也可以看到，在 Google Webmasters 的官方 Twitter 中也發布了一則推文，內容指出，在週一他們偵測到搜尋系統中出現了一個問題，其影響了 Google 的搜尋結果，但在發現問題的第一時間，工程師就著手將其立即修復，現在已經將問題解決了：
On Monday we detected an issue with our indexing systems that affected Google search results. Once the issue was identified, it was promptly fixed by our Site Reliability Engineers and by now it has been mitigated.

Caffeine Index
Google 在 2000 年曾推出一個名為「Caffeine Index」的搜尋索引系統，他能夠讓 Google 能夠以更快的速度抓取、索引與處理數據。它的工作能夠確保 Google 能夠不斷的即時搜尋與抓取整個網路的資料，使 Google 能夠及時的顯示最新的搜尋結果。
Google 的 Gary 鯨理在其 Twitter 上解釋了「Caffeine Index」會執行許多工作，其中幾項具體會執行的動作，包括了：
- 提取日誌紀錄
- 渲染與轉換抓取的數據
- 抓取連結、元數據與結構化資料
- 抓取與計算 SEO 信號因素
- 安排新的抓取
- 建立提交到服務的索引
The indexing system, Caffeine, does multiple things:
1. ingests fetchlogs,
2. renders and converts fetched data,
3. extracts links, meta and structured data,
4. extracts and computes some signals,
5. schedules new crawls,

他在此推文後隨即表示，如果大部分該做的事情（此指 Indexing system）出了問題，那麼結果就會以猛種方式向下展示。假如它的調度不正確，可能會導致爬蟲索引變得緩慢。如果是渲染階段出錯，則可能導致 Google 會誤解網站內容。如果索引建立階段便遭，那麼排名與服務則可能會受到影響：
If something goes wrong with most of the things that it’s supposed to do, that will show downstream in some way. If scheduling goes awry, crawling may slow down. Google 搜尋結果故障
此次的故障所導致的排名巨幅變動不僅僅是影響英文國家當中，同時在歐洲、亞洲地區的國家都有感受到類似的錯誤搜尋結果。
通常 Google 若有演算法的更新，通常會由 Danny Sullivan 來公佈，但目前他正處於休假狀態，且並未公告任何的 Google 演算法更新消息。
另一方面，John Mueller 與 Gary Illyes 都在其 Twitter 上明確的表示，此次的問題有極大可能是由於「Caffeine Index」的某個環節出錯而導致搜尋結果故障發生，而現在再次的進行搜尋時，此前的錯誤皆已恢復正常，因此，可以確信此次並非是 Google 演算法更新，而是單純的技術故障所導致的問題。
